Two Ways to Fix a Turkey Neck. Only One of Them Has a Section on the Form Called "Risk of Death."
A founder who sat in the consultation chair explains what the surgeon's lobby doesn't show you, and the 5-minute option she'd try first.
By Sarah, Founder of Gleama
I'm Sarah. A few years ago I sat in a plastic surgeon's consultation chair, holding a brochure full of perfect jawlines, and listened to a price that started with a one.
I didn't book it. Not because I was brave, but because of what I read on the form when he left the room.
If you're reading this, you've probably done your own version of it. You've stood at the bathroom mirror pulling the skin of your neck back with two fingers to see what you'd look like "fixed." You've tilted your chin up in every photo for years. You've worn the scarf in July.
So let me show you both options honestly, and then you decide.
Option 1: The neck lift
You go under general anesthesia. The surgeon cuts behind your ears and under your chin, pulls the skin and muscle tight, and trims away what's left over.
You wake up with your head wrapped and plastic drain tubes coming out of your neck, collecting blood into little bulbs that someone has to empty.
For two weeks you sleep sitting up. You can't turn your head. Your neck goes purple, then green, then yellow. You don't go to the grocery store. You cancel lunch with your friends and make up a story.
And then there's the form, the part they read quickly:
- Bleeding under the skin (hematoma). Studies put it at roughly 1 to 8 out of every 100 lifts. When it's big, it can swell the neck and press on the airway, and you go back into surgery.
- Nerve injury. A crooked smile or a lip that doesn't move right, sometimes for months.
- Scars, skin loss, revision surgery.
The price: $10,000 to $15,000. And the line at the bottom of the page: results are not permanent. Your skin keeps aging.
Why your neck creams never worked
Before you decide surgery is the only way, you need to know why everything else let you down, because it wasn't your fault.
Your neck ages faster than your face. Neck skin is thinner and has fewer oil glands. And in the first five years after menopause, skin loses about 30% of its collagen. The skin under your jaw loses its hold and starts to fold.
Then look at how you've been treating it. Every night you put cream on your fingertips and rub it into your neck sideways and down, the exact direction gravity is already pulling. For twenty, thirty years.
That's why neck creams leave your skin softer and your neck exactly the same.
It was never the cream. It's how it goes on.

The Gleama way
Option 2: Five minutes on the couch
This is why we made Gleama PDRN Collagen Gua Sha Neck Cream.
It looks like a pink tube of cream, but the top twists and a cool metal gua sha head clicks into place. You squeeze a little cream onto it and glide upward, from your collarbone to your jaw, and along your jawline toward your ear. Five minutes while your show is on. Then it goes back on the nightstand.
No anesthesia. No drains. No bruises. No story to make up.
Why the upward glide matters
Gua sha has been used for centuries, but most women quit: the stone needs oil, takes 20 minutes, and ends up in a drawer. Putting the head on the tube means you actually use it, every single night.
And it does more than feel good. In one published study, gua sha strokes boosted blood flow under the skin by 400% (Nielsen et al., 2007). Gleama is applied during those strokes, so the ingredients go on right while your skin is warm and the blood flow is up.
What's in the tube
-
PDRN (salmon DNA): the ingredient Korean skin clinics are known for, used to support the skin's natural repair.
-
5% Volufiline™: a plant-derived active known for its plumping effect, to help bring back the fullness the neck and jaw lose with age.
-
Collagen: for a softer, smoother, more supple-feeling neck.
What 5 minutes a night looks like
Night one, your neck feels smoother and softer under your hand. After that, it becomes a ritual you look forward to: your show, a cup of tea, five slow upward strokes on each side.
And one day, someone takes a photo, and you realize you didn't tilt your chin up.
"Should I still consider surgery?"
I'm not telling you surgery is always wrong. Some women need it, and that's their decision.
I'm telling you to try option 2 first. It costs less than the consultation fee. It takes five minutes a night. And if it's not enough, the surgeon will still be there.
